The lady in the picture.....

The lovely woman next to me in my profile picture is my wife, Laura Backes. Laura's probably better known in the kids lit community than I am, and with good reason. She founded Children's Book Insider, wrote Best Books for Kids Who (Think They) Hate to Read (Random House), co-founded the Children's Authors Bootcamp, has written for Writer's Digest and The Writer and has critiqued thousands of manuscripts.

I, on the other hand, make a really good jambalaya.

Just stopping by to clean up some spam.

Months ago, I created this site and "released it into the wild" wondering if it would take. Looks like it has! Nice job, everyone...

Since I'm fairly crazed with my new site and some other new projects, would anyone be interested in taking over as administrator? There's really nothing to it as the site runs itself. Just come in and delete members who are here to spam. I've had to do that twice in about a year! But a more engaged person would also be able… Continue

A quiz for children's writers: How Do YOU Define Success?

This was an ezine/blog post I recently wrote that has generated some nice feedback. My goal was to get people away from the "I've got to sell my book to a major press and make lots of money or else I'm a failure" mode of thinking. If you like it, feel free to use it.
